| Bill Anthony's book, The Art of Napping (Larson, 1997), was a whimsical, playful look at napping in our culture, and included sections on famous nappers, a glossary of napping words, as well as a strategy for creating napping pride. Only two pages were specifically devoted to workplace napping. Since its publication, dozens of radio, TV, and print interviewers have asked Bill specifically about workplace napping. The media interest in workplace napping is so significant and pervasive that it has stimulated Bill to examine and research this business trend in great detail. Napping secretly at the workplace is already here--napping openly with the employer's permission is a coming trend, and the book, The Art of Napping at Work is going to lead that trend. When Bill is not napping or writing about napping, he spends his waking hours as a professor at Boston University, where he is Director of the Center for Psychiatric Rehabilitation. |

| Camille Anthony is a former fiscal manager and business instructor, a successful local politician, a financial consultant and perhaps the quintessential workplace napper. Her very public endorsement of workplace napping has resulted in her being filmed napping by the Today Show and Good Morning America Sunday. In addition, Camille was recently interviewed by Self Magazine, CNN, and local radio and newspapers for information and personal accounts concerning the issue of napping at the workplace. |
| Camille and Bill Anthony have embarked on an ethnographic study (sounds impressive to us) of workplace napping. They have conducted workshops on the subject, interviewed workplace nappers, and placed a Workplace Napping Survey on this web site (www.napping.com). The Workplace Napping Survey and web site have been publicized in articles and publications as varied as the Financial Times of London, the Boston Globe and Self Magazine, which stimulated additional responses to the survey. The Workplace Napping Survey is the first and only one of its kind. As a result of the authors' research and educational activities, they possess the only database on workplace napping. Hundreds of workers have already given them information on workplace napping (e. g., why, where, when, and how they nap at work). This survey data will provide the empirical foundation to the book. In addition, interviews with workplace nappers and the case histories of those companies that presently allow open workplace napping will be incorporated into this book. |
